Diplomate ABO

Photo of Dr. Michelle Wertelet.Dr. Michelle Wertelet grew up in Weirton, West Virginia, where she first mentioned pursuing a career in optometry when she was in the fourth grade and was prescribed her first pair of glasses.

Dr. Wertelet attended Washington and Jefferson College earning her Bachelor’s degree in Biology. She was also a member of the volleyball team and earned the Presidents Athletic Conference MVP honors in 2000. In 2005, she completed her Doctor of Optometry degree at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and completed a residency program in Pediatrics and Binocular Vision the following year at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She spent time as an Assistant Professor of Optometry at the UAB School of Optometry before moving to western Pennsylvania in 2007 to take a position with a pediatric ophthalmology group.

In 2022, Dr. Wertelet decided that she wanted to broaden the scope of her practice by providing eye care for the entire family with a focus on pediatric patients, and, thus, Focus on Eyecare was born.

Dr. Wertelet continually strives to update her knowledge as the optometric profession evolves. She was among the first in the profession to become board certified after passing the inaugural exam in 2011 becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry. Dr. Wertelet is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She is a former president and current board member of the Western Pennsylvania Optometric Society and is also a member of the American Optometric Association and Pennsylvania Optometric Association. Dr. Wertelet has lectured at both local and national conferences. In honor of her service to her profession and community, Dr. Wertelet was named the 2022 Western Pennsylvania Optometrist of the Year.

Dr. Wertelet resides in Robinson Township with her husband, John, and her sons, Lucas and Nathan. She can frequently be found volunteering at her church and children’s school. In her free time, Dr. Wertelet enjoys spending time with her family, reading a good book, or hiking along a beautiful trail.

Cindy Anderson, Patient Care Specialist

Cindy is from Weirton, WV and worked at Weirton Medical Center for many years. She retired at the end of 2021. However, she found retirement somewhat boring and decided that she wanted to spend time helping her daughter at Focus on Eyecare. You’ve guessed it – she is Dr. Wertelet’s mom!

Cindy is available to help in any way to make your experience at our office a pleasant one.

When she’s not at work, Cindy enjoys taking long walks with her husband, cheering on her grandsons at their activities, and spending time with her son, his wife, and their fur baby.
